How Do You Choose Your First Car?

How Do You Choose Your First Car?

Every day teenagers across the country are passing their driving tests, so obviously they will be looking to purchase their first car

Now, what should teenagers look for in their first car? What are the most important aspects - its looks, the price or safety?

Many teens will probably consider its appearance first and foremost as they will want to look good when they take to the roads for the very first time.

More often than not good looks means a high price which isn't always the most convenient option. A good-looking car may also mean higher insurance as the better looking cars will probably come equipped with larger exhausts, sporty spoilers or alloy wheels...which inevitably means a high insurance quote too.

Teens will therefore have to look for an attractive car that is within their budget and that also qualifies for reasonable insurance - as we all know how expensive car insurance can be for first time drivers.

The trusty Vauxhall Corsa has always been a favourite amongst first-time drivers. The older versions have not always been the most attractive cars, but at the same time they are not ugly.

What makes the Vauxhall Corsa such a good prospect is not just its low price - but the fact that it also offers one of the lowest insurance premiums for teenage drivers. This is also a reason why yous see so many of them on the road.

Another factor which parents in particular will consider will be safety.

Some cheap cars on the market may not fair too well in road traffic accidents because of the low build quality. You may therefore want to explore the vehicles Euro NCAP safety rating before you buy your first car. The brand new Vauxhall Corsa fairs really well here as it managed to achieve a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating - an improvement on previous models.

Running costs are also an important issue when it comes to buying a car - if you're still at school and only have a Saturday job you will want to ensure that the car you buy won't use up all of your spare cash in running costs.

You therefore want to look for a reliable car - which is why it isn't always a good idea to get a really old banger as it can cause more trouble than its worth...and you don't really want to be worrying when it goes through its first MOT.

So, to recap you need to look for a stylish car that is within your budget, one that is efficient when it comes to running costs and one that has a decent safety rating. Bear these things in mind and owning your first car should be a pleasurable experience.
